The drilling operations at Cronos-2 in Block 6 of Cyprus’s Exclusive Economic Zone have concluded successfully, as announced by the Cypriot Ministry of Energy, Commerce, and Industry. Conducted by the Italian-French consortium of Eni and Total, the drilling confirmed the presence of a natural gas column within a geological formation exceeding 115 meters, matching the characteristics of the existing Cronos reservoir. The drilling, located 160 kilometers off the coast of Cyprus and 3 kilometers from the Cronos-1 exploration well, also included a full production test (DST), revealing excellent gas quality and high production capacity estimated to exceed 150 mscfd (Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day). Cronos marks the third natural gas discovery in Block 6’s Cypriot EEZ, alongside Calypso (2018) and Zeus (2022). The Ministry of Energy and the consortium licensee are now exploring optimal exploitation methods, potentially supplying gas to the Eastern Mediterranean, Cyprus, and Europe. Eni and Total have both confirmed the successful completion of Cronos-2 operations.
