New NUGAS VIC committee 2019/2020

6 June, 2019

On Monday the 29th of April, the National Union of Greek Australian Students (NUGAS) Victoria held their AGM to elect a new committee for the 2019/2020 term.
Boasting a membership base of over 2000 members, NUGAS, as a Greek youth organisation, remains both strong and active within the Greek community.

In light of the recent elections, the newly elected committee both recognises and congratulates the efforts and achievements of the previous committee- in particular President George Vasilopoulos, Vice President Anastasia Dolkas, Secretary George Nikolakopoulos, Treasurer Quy Fatouros, Education Officer Jordan Moshcovitis, Marketing Officer Danie Mellas and Cultural Officer Peter Asmanis.

Following the AGM, the new committee is marked with many eager members who are keen to carry on the well-established role that NUGAS plays in the community, with the new executive team as follows:

President- Anastasia Dolkas
Vice President- Jacqueline Abraam
Secretary- Kallie Karamanlidis
Treasurer- Andrew Malessiankos
Education Officer- Stefanos Hadzakis
Marketing Officer- Eryn Dessiniotis
Cultural Officer- Tania Koumanelis

The committee has since met for a ‘strategy day’, where new initiatives have been brainstormed and the coming year has been planned.

Whilst many of these initiatives are yet to be revealed, the famous ‘NUGAS Ball’ which last year accommodated over 900 attendees at the Peninsula is set to return for yet another year.

Additionally, the popular student-run radio show ‘Ta Leme’ is continuing after its reinstalment last term.

Hosted by ex-NUGAS committee member Dean Kotsianis, ‘Ta Leme’ airs on 3XY every Tuesday night at 8 PM. NUGAS is also proud to host various other social, cultural and educational events throughout the year, such as last years’ seminar on the restoration of the Parthenon Marbles and Greek School visits that were conducted in conjunction with NUGAS’ affiliate clubs, emphasising the importance of learning the Greek language in our modern world.

With a strong history of success behind them, we would like to wish the best of luck to the newly elected committee and it is with great anticipation that we await to see what the 2019/2020 term has in store.
