EuroLeague giant Panathinaikos BC AKTOR has revealed a specially designed jersey to be worn exclusively during the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament, which will be held in Australia for the first time this September.
The unveiling took place on Thursday, 17 July, during a meeting between Australia’s Ambassador to Greece, Ms Alison Duncan, President of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Mr Bill Papastergiadis, and Panathinaikos BC AKTOR President, Mr Vassilis Parthenopoulos.
The event marked a significant cultural and sporting milestone for the Greek diaspora, as the tournament—now in its seventh edition—honours the legacy of Pavlos Giannakopoulos, a legendary figure in Greek basketball.
This meeting was made possible thanks to Tammy Iliou, who played a key role in connecting the National Basketball League (NBL), Panathinaikos, and the Greek communities of Melbourne and Sydney.

The team’s visit is expected to strengthen ties between Greece and the Greek-Australian diaspora, while promoting international basketball and celebrating shared heritage through sport.
For the first time, the Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament will be held outside Greece, landing in Australia from 18–22 September 2025.
Featuring Panathinaikos, Partizan Belgrade, Sydney Kings, and Adelaide 36ers, this landmark event marks a major moment for international basketball and the NBL.
