Teen killer of Melbourne doctor revealed to be son of senior police investigator

6 November, 2025

The teenager who murdered Melbourne GP Dr Ash Gordon during a violent home invasion has been revealed as the son of a senior Victoria Police investigator.

The 18-year-old, who cannot be named because he was 16 at the time of the attack, was one of four teenagers who broke into Dr Gordon’s Doncaster home on January 13, 2024, attempting to steal his black Mercedes AMG. When the 33-year-old doctor confronted the intruders, he was stabbed six times with a hunting knife — suffering fatal wounds to his heart, lung, and aorta.

A Melbourne Supreme Court jury found the youth guilty of murder in June this year. It has now emerged that his mother works as an investigator with Victoria Police, a fact that shocked both the public and the police community.

During the trial, the teen admitted he avoided telling his mother about his involvement because he feared it might cost her job. “It was extremely stressful,” he told the court. “I knew she’d panic about it, and I thought they might fire her.”

Dr Gordon’s death devastated his family and his long-term partner, Dakota Nagel, who described him as the “light of my life” and “irreplaceable.” In a statement shortly after the murder, she said those responsible “deserve the maximum punishment and nothing less.”

Dr Gordon, a popular GP known for his kindness and dedication, had been living in Doncaster with Ms Nagel for several years. His parents, Glen and Catherine Gordon, also attended the court proceedings and are expected to deliver victim impact statements at the pre-sentence hearing later this week.

The murder drew widespread outrage across Victoria, reigniting debate about youth crime and violent home invasions. Despite recent government reforms to tighten bail laws, police have reported a rise in offences involving offenders under 18.

The teen killer will be sentenced in the coming weeks, while Victoria Police has not commented publicly on the employment status of his mother.

Dr Gordon’s family continues to call for justice — and for stronger measures to protect the community from youth violence.
