Teens return to Southbank crime scene after stabbing father and son outside Crown Casino

13 October, 2025

A shocking series of events unfolded in Melbourne’s Southbank on Sunday, after three teenagers allegedly involved in the stabbing of a father and son outside Crown Casino returned to the scene only hours later, openly bragging about the violent attack.

The incident occurred around 2am on Sunday, when a group of boys aged between 14 and 17 allegedly became involved in a confrontation with a 47-year-old man and his 23-year-old son on Yarra Promenade. According to police, the dispute began after the group bumped into the victims while they were walking with family members, sparking a verbal argument that quickly escalated.

One of the teenagers reportedly pulled out a knife and attacked the pair, slashing both men before the group fled. Emergency services arrived within minutes, and the son was taken to The Alfred Hospital in a stable condition with injuries to his upper and lower body.

Police swiftly arrested five teenage boys in connection with the assault. A 15-year-old boy has been charged with multiple offences including intentionally causing injury, assault with a weapon, and affray. He appeared before the Children’s Court on Sunday night, did not apply for bail, and was remanded in custody to reappear on October 17. His lawyer told the court it was the boy’s first time in detention and that he may be experiencing substance withdrawal.

A 17-year-old and a 14-year-old were also charged with offences including affray, reckless injury, and assault in company, and were granted bail to appear at a later date. Two others, aged 16 and 14, were released pending summons.

While the investigation continued, the case took a disturbing turn on Sunday afternoon when three boys—believed to be among those involved—returned to the crime scene around midday. They spoke with members of the media, boasting about their actions. One teen showed what he said were handcuff marks and claimed he had “not slept much in the cop shop” because his friend was “punching the walls of the cell.” Another said he had thrown punches but insisted the victims had started the fight.

The most shocking remark came from one boy who said, “After you stab someone, you get addicted to it,” before gesturing toward the Yarra River and claiming that “if you want to find knives, that’s where they are.”

Police have described the behaviour as deeply concerning and continue to urge witnesses or anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
