Renowned psychologist, family counsellor and author Tenia Makri drew enthusiastic audiences during her first lecture appearances in Melbourne, delivered as part of her inaugural visit to Australia.
The events — presented collaboratively by the Hellenic Women’s Network of Victoria, HELIADES, EEAMA, AHEPA Victoria and the Hellenic Women’s Cultural Association ESTIA — were met with strong engagement and appreciation from attendees.
Late October, the hall at Stars International was filled to capacity as the audience listened for more than two hours to Makri’s thoughtful exploration of family relationships. Her presentation extended beyond the dynamics within a household, touching on how individuals relate to themselves, to others, and ultimately to society — a process many described as an inner journey of self-reflection and awareness.
“Only when we know who we are can we truly understand others and form relationships and make choices that serve us,” Makri told the audience.
Throughout the evening, she discussed themes such as happiness, love, forgiveness and gratitude with clarity, compassion and an emphasis on personal insight.
Her second lecture, titled “Influences that Make Us Who We Are – Heredity, the Role of Parents, Social and Cultural Factors”, took place on Sunday 9 November and attracted more than two hundred participants, again generating considerable interest.
Organisers expressed their sincere thanks to Makri, praising both the depth of her expertise and the engaging, uplifting manner in which she delivered her material.
Makri concluded her Melbourne programme with an additional presentation on Monday 10 November at the Aetolian Greek School in Yarraville, designed especially for students, parents and the wider school community.
