“The government is pursuing a foreign policy of a NON-sovereign state!”

George Aifantis on Militaire News doesn’t mince his words with the current government strategy against Turkey’s recent unbridled aggression. He believes that, in light of Greece’s stance, the government is pursuing a foreign policy of a NON-sovereign state.

George Aifantis is a professional diplomat, and Minister Plenipotentiary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until recently he was Greece’s ambassador to Finland. His previous post was Greece’s ambassador to Iran. He is currently a member of the Committee for National Sovereignty and Cyprus (CPC).

Ambassador-at-large George Avfantis blasts the government and opposition parties for the absence of any substantial reaction against Turkey’s unbridled aggression.

Avfantis responds to the statement of the Foreign Minister that there is a historic opportunity in Greek-Turkish relations. “There is indeed an opportunity, but for Turkey! Mr. Gerapetritis closes his eyes and thus “sees” a window of opportunity.”

The ambassador notes that Turkey made it clear in Kassos that Greece has no sovereign rights in the Aegean and the southeastern Mediterranean, “except those that Ankara recognizes us! The Turkish ships entered our territorial waters and stayed in them for 45 minutes”.

“We acknowledged to the Turks that they have a say in the area of Kassos…In this case, there was absolutely nothing to negotiate with Turkey…Turkey was pirating in Kassos. We should have gone to crisis to defend our sovereign rights.”

“Mr. Gerapetritis is systematically lying. He has made lying a political tool. The way he negotiates reflects on the country. When a Foreign Minister systematically depreciates against the demands of national interest there is an issue…Our foreign policy does not emanate any deterrence! The foreign policy of Mr Mitsotakis brought the crisis of 2020 and Kassos…Greece is practicing the foreign policy of a non-sovereign state, as the junta did.”

Avfantis harshly criticizes what the Greek Minister of Defence Nikos Dendias said and did in Kastellorizo. “He threatened the Turks with the weapons that Greece WILL take,” he said. “What Dendias did in Kastellorizo was a display of Greek politicism.”

“In December, the Turks will seek Greece’s signatures,” argues Ambassador-at-Large George Avfantis. “The Turks are seeking to give us a slap in the face to get us to sign.”

Affantis’ criticism extends to the current government’s handling of what is happening in the region.
