The Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Olympic Flame will be born again in the Sacred Land of Ancient Olympia on 16 April 2024, to begin its journey to the French capital, for the Olympic Games “Paris 2024”.

The Lighting Ceremony will begin at 11.30 am, in the presence of the H.E. President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou with free admission for the public.

The Olympic Flame will be born in the hands of the Protectoress Mary Minas while the Choreography has been inspired and directed by the Choreographer Artemis Ignatiou, with music composed by Dimitris Papadimitriou and will be performed by 35 Priestesses and 15 Kouroi. The costumes of the dance company have been created by the internationally renowned designer Mary Katrantzou.

The Olympic Anthem will be performed by the leading Mezzo – Soprano Joyce DiDonato and Master of Ceremonies will be the renowned journalist Nikos Aliagas.

Olympic gold medalist Stefanos Dousk will receive the Olympic Flame from the hands of the Protectoress Mary Minas to start the Torch Relay on Greek soil that will last 11 days, until April 26.

The Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame, organized by the Hellenic Olympic Committee, will be attended by the President of the International Olympic Committee Dr. Thomas Bach, the President of the International Organising Committee “Paris 2024” Tony Estanguet, the French Minister of Sport Amélie Udea-Castera, the French Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Greek origin Chrysoula Zacharopoulou and the Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, who will be welcomed by the President of the Hellenic Olympic Committee, President of the European Olympic Committees and Member of the IOC Spyros Kapralos.

The President of the Olympic Torch Relay Committee Thanasis Vassiliadis is responsible for the Olympic Flame Ceremonies and Yannis Papadimitriou well oversee as Master of Ceremonies.
