Woman hit with 28 demerit points in one go over Easter weekend

24 April, 2019

A NSW woman has been hit with 28 demerit points for allegedly using a phone while driving with three children not properly restrained in the back seat.

The 24-year-old was pulled over by police on the Pacific Highway at Ourimbah on the Central Coast on Monday evening.

Officers allege three children – aged five, three and one – were sitting in child seats but none were anchored to the car as required.

The youngest two children’s shoulder straps were also not tightened correctly.
The woman was issued $1348 worth of fines and 28 demerits points – more than double the 13-point limit.
Family and Community Services have been notified, police said.
There was a drop in the number of people drink driving and speeding over the Easter long weekend, but police said drivers were still making poor choices.

“Three people lost their lives on NSW roads across the Easter break – this is the same as last year,” Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy said in a statement on Tuesday.

“When you combine that with the fact 6000 people were detected travelling above the speed limit – those thoughts should be incentive enough to turn anyone off acting like an idiot on our roads.”
