Zelensky condemns ‘barbaric attack’ in Sumy region – victims include railway workers and passengers

At least 30 people have been injured following a Russian drone strike on a railway station in the Ukrainian city of Shostka, in the Sumy region, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who described the attack as “barbaric.”

In a post on platform X, Zelensky wrote: “A barbaric Russian drone strike hit the railway station in Shostka, Sumy region.” He confirmed that all emergency services had arrived at the scene and were assisting the wounded.

“All information regarding the injured is being verified. So far, we know there are at least 30 victims. According to preliminary reports, the injured include railway employees and passengers who were at the station at the time of the attack,” the Ukrainian president stated.

The regional governor of Sumy, Oleg Khyryhorov, said that a Kyiv-bound train was struck in the attack, but did not provide further details about its condition or the exact number of passengers on board.

Moscow has intensified its air campaign against Ukraine’s railway infrastructure over the past two months, striking stations and lines almost daily. Russian attacks have also targeted Ukraine’s energy network, including massive bombardments on natural gas production facilities earlier this week.
