Today, on the Feast of the Epiphany, traditional celebrations for the Blessing of the Waters are taking place across Victoria, attracting large crowds despite the unpredictable weather.
At the Rye pier, the Parish of Panagia Kamariani organized the Blessing of the Waters, led by Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne. The ceremony commenced at 1 p.m., with thousands of faithful attending to witness the sacred tradition of the Holy Cross being cast into the waters. The cross was retrieved by a young participant, Chrysostomos, who was met with enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Following the ceremony, the festivities continue with a vibrant Greek festival along the Rye foreshore. The program features traditional dances performed by cultural dance groups, live music by DJ Kosta Nico, and food stalls offering a variety of Greek delicacies that celebrate the rich culinary heritage of the community.
3XY Radio Hellas is actively involved in the celebrations, broadcasting live from Rye pier. Hosts Nikos Loupas and Angelis Kalodoukas are on site, sharing the lively atmosphere with listeners and providing comprehensive coverage of the event.
The Epiphany celebrations in Victoria are an annual highlight for the Greek-Australian community, bringing people together to honor their faith and cultural traditions in a spirit of unity and joy.
