Greece’s men’s basketball team suffered one of its heaviest recent defeats on Friday night, losing 94-68 to Turkey in the EuroBasket 2025 semifinal.
As of todaay, reactions are still unfolding, with attention now turning to Sunday’s bronze medal game against Finland.
Head coach Vassilis Spanoulis spoke to Greek broadcaster ERT after the game, expressing disappointment but also optimism:
“We made many childish mistakes and weren’t ready energetically. Defensively, we allowed exactly what we had vowed to prevent. Still, I’m very proud of my players. We have one more chance ahead of us to fight for the medal we want so badly.”
Greece appeared off its game—struggling with poor shooting, turnovers, and defensive lapses. Spanoulis admitted fatigue played a role but stressed the need for a quick recovery: “Tomorrow we will analyze Finland and prepare. I believe we will be ready for this very important match.”
While Greek fans voiced their frustration online, many also praised the team’s progress under Spanoulis’s leadership. Turkish supporters are celebrating their first EuroBasket final in years. Sunday’s bronze medal clash is seen as vital for Greece’s morale and future prospects.
