Glendi 2024 – Celebrating 25th March at the Hellenic Museum

25 March, 2024

The event for the national anniversary of March 25th National Day of Greece and the 30th anniversary of 3XY Radio Hellas, which was held on Sunday by the Hellenic Museum of Melbourne, at the museum’s premises in the centre of Melbourne, was a huge success.

Hundreds of people participated in the “Glendi 2024”, an event to honour the heroes of the 1821Greek Revolution but also a celebration that marked this year’s events for the 30th anniversary of 3XY Radio Hellas and the 29th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper TA NEA.

At the centre of the “Glendi” was the band “Anagenisi” and the Manasis School of Dance and Tradition, which presented, successively and throughout the event, favourite traditional dances from different parts of the country.

The master of ceremonies of the event was the journalist of 3XY Radio Hellas and the newspaper TA NEA, John Paganis, who thanked the Stamoulis family, the Museum’s team and the General Director of the group Mr. Spiros Alatsas for their tremendous work and the excellent organization of this event for the second consecutive year. As Mr. Paganis pointed out, Mr. Alatsas was abroad and could not attend, however, his presence was felt as he played a very important role in the organization of the event.

The demonstration of Pontian dances by the dance group of the Pontiaki Estia was also impressive and captivated the audience.

The event was graced with the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, who once again praised the work of the Greek community in Australia and reminded all that with the celebration of March 25th we celebrate the beginning of the revolution. He stressed that the message of the revolution is timeless and relevant. In particular, he referred to the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974 and the fact that it remains under Turkish occupation.

Admittedly, the show was “highjacked”  by the young Tsoliades and Amalies who flooded the open spaces of the Museum.

The Hellenic Museum’s free entry arrangement for the day allowed people to admire its magnificent exhibits and left people in awe.

3ΧΥ Radio Hellas was on the grounds broadcasting live with Nick Loupos.
