Greece defeats Hungary to win Women’s Water Polo World Cup in Chengdu, China, overcoming Hungary 13–9 on Easter Sunday morning. Harry Pavlidis’ side earned their place in the final after a thrilling 15–13 win over the Netherlands in Saturday’s semi-final.

Determined to claim gold, the Greek team set the tone early in the final, maintaining control and keeping Hungary at bay throughout the match. The two sides had met earlier in the competition, with Greece also prevailing 14–10 in Alexandroupoli during the first phase of the tournament.

In the final, the Greek team — wearing their traditional blue and white caps — at times held a commanding five-goal advantage, eventually sealing a deserved 13–9 win over their black-capped opponents.

This latest success marks Greece’s fourth World Cup gold medal in the team’s history, and their first in eight years, reaffirming their place among the sport’s elite.
