Hellenic Australians making their mark in Australia’s North

2 October, 2019

The Hellenic Australia Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. Northern Territory (HACCI NT) was launched last week at Darwin’s Parliament House.

The Chief Minister of the Northern Territory, Michael Gunner, assisted in launching HACCI NT by hosting members of the Hellenic Australian community, and the wider NT business community.

In his speech Mr Gunner commended the vital economic and social contribution the Hellenic Community has achieved in the Northern Territory.
HACCI NT Chair, Angela Tomazos echoed Mr Gunner’s comments.

“Whether it’s in construction and development, contributing to the academic landscape, creating and implementing government policy, or as business owners across the restaurant and cafe scene, it’s clear that Hellenic Australians in the Northern Territory have left their mark,” Ms Tomazos said.

“As a new organisation, our board’s first priority is to consult with the Northern Territory’s Hellenic Australian business community, to understand their needs, and to work with the HACCI Federation to support those endeavours,” she said. HACCI Federation Chair Fotini Kypraios said she was proud of what the NT team had accomplished so far and is looking forward to working with the HACCI NT team into the future.

“HACCI Victoria has had a long-term goal to establish a national footprint, to establish a federation of HACCI chapters nationwide that could operate independently but leverage the experience HACCI Victoria has gained over the years. Together we are stronger.
HACCI NT is the first chapter of the national HACCI Federation and we look forward to collaborating and sharing this journey,” Ms Kypraios said.

About the Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry

HACCI is Australia’s peak body linking business with government and community. For almost 40 years, the Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry has been the common thread linking, promoting and strengthening relations between members of the Hellenic Australian business and professional communities, as well as facilitating a connection with the various levels of government in Australia, Greece and the broader community.

HACCI is a multifaceted membership-based organisation that offers different things to different people and provides a forum for its members to meet, interact and exchange knowledge and ideas. It is a vehicle from which to gain an additional perspective and influence change as a united voice.
