Horrific Patras Crash: 70-Year-Old with Multiple Sclerosis Drove Wrong Way and Burned to Death – Heartbreaking Accounts Emerge

13 September, 2025

Patras is in mourning after a deadly accident on the Olympia Odos highway on Thursday, when a 70-year-old woman from Aigio drove nearly one kilometer against traffic before a violent head-on collision.

Her car burst into flames, leaving her trapped inside where she burned to death. The sole survivor of the crash, still in shock, recalled: “We were driving at 130 km/h—suddenly everything went dark.”

Family members revealed that the woman, who was about to become a grandmother, had long-standing health issues. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 48, her condition had worsened in recent years after a fall and surgery. Despite repeated warnings from friends and relatives not to drive, she believed her automatic car allowed her to stay independent. She reportedly favored holistic medicine over traditional treatments.

Police are investigating whether a medical episode may have triggered the disaster. Authorities have reminded drivers with serious health conditions to reconsider driving to prevent tragedies. The crash has shocked the local community and reignited debate about highway safety standards in Greece.
