The scheduled meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in New York appears to be heading toward cancellation. According to a senior government source, holding the meeting now seems “extremely difficult” due to the prime minister’s heavily packed agenda.
The source clarified that the appointment between the two leaders had been fully arranged and agreed upon, with the Greek side announcing it as is customary in diplomatic practice. “During the organization of the meeting, our position was clear: we always announce our meetings, whereas Turkey usually does not,” the official emphasized.
Athens insists on keeping communication channels with Ankara open, despite the scheduling challenges. Government circles stress that even if the meeting does not take place in New York, there will be another opportunity for the two leaders to meet. It is worth noting that Mitsotakis has already met Erdogan seven times, as part of a broader strategy aimed at maintaining stability in the Aegean and fostering cooperation on regional issues.
