Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is set to meet with European Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, today, at 13:00 at the Maximou Mansion.
This meeting comes at a time when Greece is navigating complex issues regarding its energy future, and as part of broader EU efforts to address regional energy challenges.
Jørgensen’s visit to Greece highlights the ongoing commitment to the European Union’s energy policies, which seek to ensure sustainable and affordable energy solutions across member states. Greece, a country with diverse geographical challenges, is increasingly seen as a key player in the EU’s energy strategy.
Yesterday, Mitsotakis wrapped up his tour in the Evrytania region, where he visited the small mountain village of Fournas. During his visit, he spoke with young people who had left major urban centers in favor of a simpler, more rural lifestyle. This encounter was part of Greece’s broader National Strategy for Regional and Local Development, which aims to stimulate economic and social growth in remote and underdeveloped areas.
At Fournas, the prime minister discussed key national priorities, including the management of demographic change, water resources, and spatial planning. Mitsotakis emphasized policies designed to strengthen mountainous and island regions, support primary sector industries like agriculture, and increase job opportunities.
Mitsotakis also highlighted the importance of reviving rural communities, calling for greater attention to creating incentives for people to stay in, or return to, the country’s more remote areas. He specifically referenced policies focusing on food security, the agricultural sector, and the revitalization of regional economies.
The upcoming meeting with Jørgensen will no doubt continue discussions on these important issues, particularly as energy policy is a key part of the ongoing European development agenda. Mitsotakis’s leadership on both the regional and energy fronts will play a crucial role in shaping Greece’s future within the broader EU framework.
