NDIS public servant charged over alleged $5 million fraud scheme

19 February, 2026

A 47-year-old Northern Territory public servant has been charged following an investigation into the alleged fraudulent claiming of millions of dollars from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

The man, based in Darwin, is employed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Authorities allege he improperly referred vulnerable members of the community to an NDIS provider business that he co-owned.

According to investigators, the business has claimed more than $28 million in NDIS funding since 2019. Of that amount, approximately $5 million worth of claims have been identified by authorities as suspicious.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) executed search warrants yesterday at a residential property in Lee Point, a business premises in Durack, and additional commercial locations in Yarrawonga within the Darwin region.

During the searches, officers seized documents and electronic devices, including laptop computers, which will undergo forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.

The 47-year-old man has been charged with multiple offences, including fraud and abuse of public office. Police have confirmed that the investigation remains active.

Authorities are urging members of the public who suspect NDIS-related fraud to contact the dedicated helpline on 1800 650 717 or submit information through the official online reporting portal.

The case raises renewed concerns about integrity safeguards within the multibillion-dollar disability support scheme, which provides essential funding and services to Australians living with disability.
