Canberra, July 23, 2025 — Almost 3,000 Range Rover Evoque vehicles are being urgently recalled across Australia amid safety concerns that the front passenger airbag may tear during deployment, potentially exposing occupants to hot gases and increasing the risk of serious injury or death.
The recall, issued by Jaguar Land Rover Australia, applies to Range Rover Evoque models manufactured between 2020 and 2024. According to the official recall notice, “due to a manufacturing defect, the passenger airbag may tear during deployment. This could cause hot gases to escape from the airbag and result in insufficient protection to the passenger.”
In a collision, an airbag malfunction of this type can significantly reduce its effectiveness, with the escaping hot gases potentially harming passengers and increasing the likelihood of injury or fatality.
More than 2,800 vehicles are affected by the recall. Owners are urged to contact their local Jaguar Land Rover dealership immediately to schedule a free replacement of the faulty passenger airbag.
A complete list of the vehicle identification numbers (VINs) of the affected vehicles is available on the Department of Transport’s website. For additional assistance, concerned drivers can call Jaguar Land Rover Australia’s recall hotline on 1800 625 642.
The company has not reported any injuries or incidents linked to the defect so far but is acting pre-emptively in consultation with federal transport authorities to ensure the safety of its customers.
The recall follows a series of safety-related actions taken by car manufacturers across Australia in recent months, highlighting the need for ongoing vigilance and prompt response when vehicle faults are detected.
