Russia and China announce military alliance against the U.S.

12 September, 2024

In a historic development, Russia and China officially announced today the formation of a military alliance aimed at countering the United States. The alliance is primarily focused on addressing what the two powers described as “the American threat,” specifically if the U.S. were to deploy nuclear missiles in Japan or threaten the security of either nation.

This marks the first time that both superpowers—Russia, a nuclear power, and China, a conventional military giant—have publicly declared a joint military initiative against the U.S. “Moscow and Beijing will respond to the U.S. with a ‘dual reaction,’” said Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, in reference to the potential U.S. missile deployments in Japan.

Japanese media had earlier reported that the U.S. expressed intentions to station intermediate-range nuclear missiles on Japanese soil. In response, Zakharova emphasized that Russia and China would jointly act against this emerging threat, stressing that the reaction “would not be merely political.”

At the same time, the BRICS bloc is undergoing significant transformation, with discussions about the creation of a “military wing.” This development comes as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken hinted that Washington is lifting restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range weapons, allowing strikes deep into Russian territory.

The announcement of this alliance between Russia and China signals a major shift in global military dynamics, as both nations prepare to confront perceived U.S. aggression in the Asia-Pacific region.
