Late Tuesday night, U.S. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania landed in London to begin their official visit to the United Kingdom. They were greeted by U.S. Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley and Viscount Hood on behalf of King Charles.
Before leaving Washington, Trump mistakenly referred to King Charles as “Prince Charles,” a slip that drew immediate international media attention. Tensions rose further when an Australian journalist asked whether his personal wealth had increased since taking office. Trump, visibly irritated, criticized the question as disrespectful and accused the media of focusing on gossip rather than serious matters.
During the same exchange, Trump hinted that he might meet Australia’s Prime Minister for the first time during his European trip but offered no specific details. His comment has fueled speculation about potential developments in U.S.–Australia relations.
The Trumps are staying at Winfield House in Regent’s Park, and today they will be officially welcomed by King Charles and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle for two days of formal events.
