Teens injured and arrested after stolen car crash on Monash Freeway

13 September, 2025

Melbourne was rocked this morning (September 13) when a white Land Rover, allegedly stolen from Bonbeach, collided with three cars and rolled onto its roof on the Monash Freeway near the Burke Rd off-ramp in Glen Iris. Police said the vehicle had earlier been used in a petrol drive-off in Somerville.

All three occupants—teenagers aged between 15 and 17—were restrained by bystanders until officers arrived. A 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were taken to hospital under police guard, while a 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene.

Among the other motorists, a male driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a female driver sustained minor injuries. The occupants of a fourth vehicle escaped unharmed.

Police are investigating whether the teens were involved in other theft incidents. The crash has reignited debate about rising youth crime and stolen vehicle incidents across Victoria.
