Bombings, demolitions, and displacements: Gaza hit relentlessly by Israel

21 September, 2025

The situation in the Gaza Strip is worsening dramatically as Israel continues intense airstrikes and ground operations, triggering a massive humanitarian crisis. Dozens of Palestinians are being killed daily, while hundreds of thousands are being displaced from their homes.

On Saturday, at least 91 Palestinians were killed in strikes that targeted homes, schools converted into shelters, tents housing displaced families, and a truck carrying civilians who had been ordered to evacuate by the Israeli army. Among the dead were five members of Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya’s family, the director of Gaza’s largest hospital, including his wife, brother, and their children, after their home was struck.

The Israeli military has demolished at least 20 high-rise buildings in the past two weeks, mainly in Gaza City’s eastern suburbs. Ground forces now control areas such as Sheikh Radwan and Tel al-Hawa, paving the way for incursions into central and western Gaza, where the majority of the population has sought refuge. An estimated 350,000 residents have fled Gaza City since early September, while around 600,000 remain trapped, including some Israeli hostages held by Hamas.

The international community is watching with increasing concern as humanitarian groups warn that mass demolitions and forced displacements may violate international humanitarian law. Israel argues its operations are aimed at Hamas military infrastructure and underground tunnel networks used for attacks, but the widespread destruction and civilian casualties have sparked global outrage.
